Sebastian’s dancing background in the Urban Styles dance styles of Locking and Popping. He has studied street dance pedagogy at the University of Arts in Stockholm.
Sebastian has also worked with contemporary dance and performance-based dance in his work as professional dancer. Sebastian has been working with the Guoddi performance together with dancer/choreographer Ánna-Katri Helander, duodji artist Ann-Sofie Kallok and composer Anthoni Haetta.
Workshop Concept:
In North Sámi language guoddi means “someone who carries something”. In the performance it both means to wear an element that symbolizes pride in your culture, but also what it can feel like to carry an indigenous culture on your shoulders.
In the creative workshop we will try to find ways to move and dance in relationship to the ideas and concepts from the Guoddi performance. We will discuss the theme of what it means to uphold or wear something. And we will try out different ways to move from your body, and from your ideas, feelings and thoughts around these concepts. As well as explore how one can dance in relation to clothes or objects that you are wearing.
Guoddi was commissioned for Dáiddadállu’s 10th anniversary in 2024 and is created by Sebastian Björkman, Ánna-Katri Helander, Anthoni Hætta and Ann-Sofie Kallok. The workshop is a collaboration between NuQi Dance, Dáiddadállu and Nuuk Art Museum.
